Ancaster Road Public School -- Official Opening

Monday, April 28, 1958

The source of this very interesting document is Carol (Macdonald) Hogan who grew up in a house on Spalding across from the school. The MacDonald family moved into their home in 1955. Her mother gave this booklet to Carol. She says she still has all her report cards too. Ruth Upton says that between 1952 and 1958 Ancaster was mostly a collection of portables tied together. Throughout the 1960s, the school had an air raid siren on top. During the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962 the teachers would prepare us for a nuclear attack by having us crouch under our desks or sit on the floor in the gym.
